Happy What's on your workdesk Wednesday. Hope you all had a good week be it work, christmas etc. No idea why last week a few of you had issues leaving comments on my blog, not changed any settings so fingers crossed it was only a blip.

Only a quick update this morning as this is my desk

Yes for some godforsaken reason i decided to clean my craft room! No idea why but i am clearing down all the shelves to wipe down, then the desk, drawers and floor! I won't be sorting just cleaning! Things you do on a day off!

See you on the other side!

Happy hump day where we share Whats on Your Workdesk Wednesday, been hectic so havent been able to pop round many (sorry) BUT I had to make a coupe more cards last night (when the photo was taken) as I ran out so it seemed perfect to take a quick photo and do a blog update (I spend hours staring at a screen for my pay the bills job so dont like being on line much out of hours) and I remembered to turn my decorative lights on too!

I also remembered my "Man Bites Dog" cards this week and they are 'Cruel Actor Dumps Romantic Wife'  oh that's cheerful just before Christmas!!

Hope you are all well and getting ready for Christmas, however you spend it, my family and friends are all over the globe so no doubt we will do some video chats and eat a lot of food and probably a lot of sprouts too (well there are some still on my allotment so would be rude not to!).

Stay safe and Merry Christmas

WOYWW and Bristol USK

Morning peeps and happy hump day which means we share What's on our Workdesks on a Wednesday thanks to the amazing queen of desks Julia (link over on the right).

On my desk this week are a couple of birthday cards I am making.  We have more birthdays in December than in any other month of the year!  I also put some sparkly multicoloured lights on around my desk and also my spider plant.  I don't tend to do much in the way for Christmas decorating but I must admit I tend to do sparkly lights in my craft room all year round - well why not?

On the right of my desk is my "Fabulous people" address book and on the left is my travel sketch book from Oxfam that i use for urban sketching.  This weekend rather than an actual meet up the Bristol Urban sketchers did a virtual sketch crawl in Toledo in Spain and I managed to call in for the last 50 mins, so only managed a quick street sketch from Googlestreet view but it was lovely to actually spend some time sketching and chatting, albeit virtually, with the other sketchers

Forgot to get my "man bites dog" cards out this week as its been a hectic couple weeks at the pay the bills job and I keep piling jobs up at home so only just remembered it was Tuesday (when I took the photo) and that I missed the last WOYWW and was determined to meet up this week! Hopefully I will remember next week!

So, whats on your workdesk this wednesday?

Happy hump day where we share our workdesks thanks to the Queen of Desks the lovely Julia (link here )

After missing out last week (not sure where the week went, one minute it was Monday then next it was Friday and I was logging out of work!) I was determined to post this week.  This is my desk last night as I am updating my 365 Journal ready for December.

My Man Bites Dog cards are "Actor Blames Wifes Fans!!" oooh!!  I also realised my date stamp (which I have had for YEARS) runs out at the end of 2022 so I will need to remember to buy one, presume they still make these as I find them really useful.

So, What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday?

Happy crafting

Happy hump day where we share our workdesks thanks to the Queen of Desks the lovely Julia (link over on the right).  This was my desk last night.  To be honest not a lot going on, the colour wheel at the back has fallen off its hook so I just need to put it back and the mouse, notebook, pens and yellow post it tags are work stuff that needs putting away (rather than the usual shoved to the back routine).

The brown square on the desk is actually a piece of board from the back of a picture clip frame that my mum was throwing out but I rescued the backing as I thought i may be able to paint on it and create a piece of art to abandon, though knowing me it will probably sit at the back of the desk for weeks before being put in a box not to see the light of day until a few months time!

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are 'Devoted lawyer missing brave star' - well with the Britney Spears story perhaps its related to that?!

Anyway, whats on your workdesk this wedesday?

WOYWW

Happy hump day, which means its another Whats on Your Workdesk Wednesday where we share our desks across the globe thanks to the Queen of Desks Julia (full details can be found here).

This photo was taken last night, I had a couple cheeky days off work and this enabled me to catch up on the allotment (weeded, compost added, garlic etc all planted and covered) and also finally catch up on my Inktober tags. Each year I use luggage tags as they hang nicely on a ring from the underneath of the shelf on my desk and take up so little room when hanging there.

It is only when I spread them all out that I realise just how much room they could take up each year!

I quite like Day9, the prompt "pressure" with Homer Simpson with the devil and angel on his shoulders!

I was quite pleased with Day 12, "Stuck" with the boy licking the freezing post!!

and from the final batch I like Say 28, "Crispy" and also Day 30, "Slither".  I do enjoy taking part each year and I know I should do more but finding the time (or prioritising the time if I am honest) is not easy but now the evenings are closing in I tend to find more time to craft as its often too dark after work to spend too long on the allotment.  Also, I know a lot of crafters are making the "C word" items and I really should crack on with that too!!

So, what's on your workdesk this Wednesday?

WOYWW

Hello peeps, only a quick update from me as the pay the bills job is busy and I have been busy in the evenings catching up on tasks that means sadly very little crafting (though I have done a few bits of inktober catching up but not quite there yet so will post when caught up).

On my desk this week (well last night) the desk was empty (well apart from the usual bits I keep on it) so I thought I would share what I currently have in my window sill (apart from houseplants and micro greens)-yep my winter squashes are hardening off nicely ready to be stored for use through out the winter months. Now I have to admit that I have not 1 but 3 window sills that are currently filled with winter squash (as they are most years in the autumn) so I have to take my hat off to my long suffering husband as he has to look at them and not knock them off!

The one on the right is a spaghetti squash, the blue large one at the back is, in my opinion, the best tasting squash there is, Crown Prince (I only managed to grow 2 of these this year on the allotment so they are very precious) the orange one is Uchiki Kuri (often known as red onion squash, I grew about 7 of these) and the striped one is Harlequin.  Now, none of my harlequin grew this year BUT I found a local farm who grew loads and flogged them from their gate for £1 each - so I bought 6 as I know that if they are ripened on a window sill for a couple weeks AND have the stalk attached then they should store happily on a shelf (and they look pretty) for several months and most years these see me through the winter months nicely.

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are 'Naked Intern Tricks Mayor'!! Well, as we in Bristol are one of the few cities in the UK to have a Mayor I don't think I should comment!!  ;-)

Happy hump day and another What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday.  Well, this was my desk last night as yesterday I had another hospital appointment (more xrays) so I took advantage of sitting in the waiting room and not being able to work for a short while and tried catching up on my Inktober tags!  I sketched a few thoughts and finished some off when I got home in the evening.  Still a bit behind but I am sure I will catch up soon.

The "Man Bites Dog" cards this week, well 'Crazy Heiress Drugs Killer' - no comment!

Thought  I would share my sketchbook, last weekend I finally got to do a physical catch up with the Bristol Urban Sketchers.  It was my first physical one for a year, we had been doing zoom sketch calls (which were a lifeline for me) but it was brilliant to meet up with members old and new, we even managed to have a couple of cheeky drinks too-admittedly we were lucky as the weather was lovely so we sketched outside and the post meet up drinks were outside too so easy to socially distance, boy I have missed that!

Hello peeps, back again after a couple weeks off work for my annual leave and into the throws once again of Inktober.  I have taken part in this for about 6 years now and the last 5 years I have completed the month on tags held together with a ring.  I then hang then from the shelf above my desk and they take up SO little room but can easily be referred back to for inspiration or just a general gawp!

As per usual I am a few days behind so I took some timeout last night (when the photo was taken) to try and catch up.  Not quite there yet but getting there and i am sure with a wet weekend forecast I will have plenty of opportunity to make up any lost time!

My "Man bites dog" cards this week are just odd! "Mob boss Dog sues Brave nurse!!"  well, anything is possible these days it seems, so why not!

Also perched on the right against my small drawers are some great quotation stamps from Jenny at The Artist Stamper.  I won them during the Paralympics when they ran a lucky dip and how fab I won this set!

Just also a quick mention, Lynne commented on my last post for the Elderberry vinegar recipe, always happy to share so i have included it in the comments on my previous post, feel free to share, make and enjoy (I also make it with strawberries during the glut season).

WOYWW

Hello peeps and welcome to my desk!  Well, sort of its actually the garden table with a cover over it as I have been getting the varnish out and it stinks!  A few weeks back I shared with you the wooden plant labels that I bought from a local charity, the Brandon Trust, for adults with learning disabilities and they make stuff out of wood and make these from the offcuts.  They are a decent size (about the length of a paperback book) and are £1.50 for 5 and all the money goes to the charity so I often buy a pack when I go past.  I paint them with acrylic and use a posca paint pen to create the lettering.  I have been slowly making a whole load of them and these are the latest ones.  I then give them 2 coats of yacht varnish to hopefully winter proof them.  Takes a while for the coats to dry before I can turn them over and repeat the process hence it takes a while but I think they are worth it.

Also thought I would do an update on another make,  my final batch of elderberry vinegar was ready recently.  I do love this and have made it for a few years now.  Its great over salad or even added to soda water to drink like a victorian shrub.  Either way, elderberries are meant to be good for the immune system so its always worth me making some and it tastes delicious too.

So, what's on your workdesk this Wednesday then?

WOYWW

Hello peeps, hump day again so that means sharing our desk again with the lovely Queen of desks Julia!  On my Workdesk this Wednesday is another card in the making.  The other week I carved a small scene and did a few prints of it at the same time and its perfect timing as 2 friends of mine have recently moved to pastures new (hence the field and fence I carved in the lino!) so they are perfect for new home cards.

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are "Lawyer Wanted Thousands, Crazy Star" - well there has been a few similar news stories over the past few weeks along these lines in real life so to be honest when I picked the cards out randomly it made me think of some of the recent news stories from over in the states.

On the right of the desk are my flesh coloured isotonic pressure gloves for the rheumatoid arthritis, I have used these for a few years now and found when I am typing a lot as it helps to wear them.  When I am doing heavier tasks like ironing etc the hospital gave me gloves with metal bars in to help steady the wrists and they help but I cant wear them for too long.  At the back of the desk is my stress ball (purple) for my hand exercises and also I use it behind my shoulder to roll up and down the wall, it helps and the physio recommended it (they mentioned a tennis ball but this is currently all I have and it seems to help so all good).  At the back is also my mouse, earphones, highlighter etc all dumped from work and pushed to one side so I can craft for a bit instead.

Happy crafting

WOYWW

Hello peeps, well I am feeling a lot better, still a long way to go with my neck and shoulder but finally managed after almost 6 weeks to get an actual physio appointment so am hoping that they can help as the medication is not great to be honest.  Could be a LOT worse but it is frustrating and has really slowed me down and limited what I can do!

Anyway, back to crafting.  On my desk this week is my 365 journal, I know, get me, ahead of the game and getting it ready before the next month has even started!!  Let's be honest that does NOT happen often, BUT I am very aware that work is crazy busy at the moment and is only due to get more busy so I thought I would take a rare moment to try to get ahead of the game and start Octobers page.

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are "Hubby Convict Sues Judge"!!!!  Well, that really is an attention grabbing headline, that is for sure!

Thought I would also update on the latest make from the allotment.  This time 3 jars of piccalilli.  Last year was the first time I have ever made it and hubby really liked it so I made 3 large jars this year and hopefully it will mature over the next few months and taste as good as last years.

So, Whats on Your Workdesk this Wednesday?  Are you sharing?  Go on, you know you want to!

Happy crafting

Hello peeps only a quick update for What's on your workdesk Wednesday as still got trapped nerves in my spine so typing is difficult and slower (which is making work very difficult but hey ho could be worse) .

This was my desk a couple days ago as was making a lino print card for my mate who has just bought a new house.

Didn't have any printing ink so used some acrylic (to be honest that's my go to substitution) and i added a stamped greeting and a glass flower.  Was pleased how it turned out

My 'man bites dog' cards this week are 'hubby ready to strikes heiress' - again no comment on that headline!

WOYWW

Morning all, having to start with an apology again as this is not my desk and I haven't done all my re visits.  Basically long story short 2 weeks ago I woke up with trapped nerves in my spine, add that to my torn rotator cuff and RA and that equates to quite a lot of pain 24/7.  Sadly my meds reacted and to avoid hospital I had to cancel our summer holiday and have had the amazing district nurses visit a couple times a day.  Slowly on the mend and sure it will keep improving but it means everything from work, allotment, life is taking a LOT longer (especially as its painful to type).

But to be able to still take part I thought I would share my latest makes from just before this happened.

Yep, yet more Courgette and Ginger Jam (seriously I have now run out of jam jars I have made so much!)  I am thinking I may dehydrate some courgette slices into crisps, its going to be a few more weeks looking at the plants that we will be picking these, both green and yellow!

I have also made another couple of jars of pickled nasturtium seeds.  I must not make as many as last year as I ended up with SO many jars that I have been eating them in my salad every lunchtime!

So only a quick update and no Man Bites Dog cards this week but looking forward to seeing what's on your workdesks this Wednesday

Happy What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday where, thanks to the lovely Queen of Desks Julia (link over on the right) people across the globe bare our desks, be them clean and tidy (a rare occurrence!) or beautifully crafty and full of ideas for "enabling" fellow deskers for some new crafty stash we hadn't even thought about before!!  Then there are desks like mine!  You know, that moment when you get what you think is a good idea "to sort out x,y,z...."   yep, no idea why we do that!!

I thought it would be a good idea to sort out one (yes I have several) of my pencil cases!  No idea why, think I spotted it and my brain had a bit of space in it and thought....ooh!!!

This case is actually a free toiletries bag from New Zealand airlines from a few years back!!  Perfect with its lining to hold pens, paints etc (as you do!) and has 3 other smaller pencil cases inside that I have collected from craft shows and freebies from trade shows etc!!

My 'Man Bites Dog' cards this week were pulled out in order (which is unusual as I often have to move them about to make sense) "Fake  Priest Tricks Missing Wife"!!  oooh, another one that makes you think!

So, dare you bare and share your desk with us all?  Go on, we are are friendly bunch and love nosing at others workspaces too!

Happy hump day and What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday. The past few weeks have been super busy with work and also the allotment.  I have been making a LOT of chutney, pickled nasturtium seeds and jam.  At the weekend I made another batch of courgette and ginger jam, which has been a go to recipe for me with the allotment as there are often a lot of courgettes!

I don't tend to print much stuff at the moment so printing preserve sticky labels every couple of weeks (which is what I was doing last night when I took this photo) is a way to make sure the printer ink doesn't dry up (as it did last year and we had to replace it even though it had hardly been used!  I was NOT impressed!!) .

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are ' Cruel Exec Sues Hero'!!  Not very pleasant but they were the random cards I pulled from the pack this week!

Morning peeps, so on my desk this week are some plant labels.  I bought some thin wooden blanks from a local Farm that is run by the Brandon Trust (brilliant charity working with adults and young people with learning difficulties and autism).  In their farm shop they sell some wooden items they make in their workshops and they were selling 5 wooden labels for £1.50 so I bought a couple packs.

I am using old acrylic paints up and then will use my white posca pen to write the produce eg Beetroot and do a couple coats of yacht varnish (again as I have part used tins to use up).  If I can get a couple years at least out of them I will be very happy.

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this weeks are 'Indicted Brave 1st Lady Weds Mob Boss!!!!'  Well, no comment is probably best with that headline!

Hope your not melting too much if your in the UK, the west (where I am) have had the first ever UK Amber Extreme Heat warning!!! Needless to say all the allotment watering etc is being done VERY early before work at the moment when its still not too hot..

Stay cool and feel free to share what's on your workdesks this wednesday

Happy hump day, this was my desk last night. I am on my 2nd batch of drying herbs for winter use. Swiss mint, marjoram, lemon balm and lavender. This time of year the airing cupboard is crammed full of herbs drying, it smells divine when i walk past!

In case Maryanne was wondering i remembered my 'Man bites dog' cards this week!! 'Actor snubs blonde hero again'! In case your wondering i tend to randomly pick up to 6 cards and don't use them all unless it makes sense!

Looking at me is a vase of sweetpeas, lavender, lemon balm and mint picked from the garden

I also recently made another batch of rhubarb and ginger jam, delicious even if i do say so myself!
And this is the allotment at the moment, over 20lb of strawberries picked! Just picked the last of the season and the last broadbeans too.

This is a usual daily harvest at the moment, lettuce, radish, herbs and my first courgette of the season.

Hello just a quick update and no desk as its covered in work, but aware my recipient has now received the anniversary atc etc so thought i could do a quick show.

These were the ATCs i made with a thick paint through a stencil to create a background.

Also the local postcard option, i couldn't find one so on one of my walks at a weekend i walked to Kingswood Museum and the 18th century 30 foot high statue of Neptune known locally as the Warmley Giant (as its in Warmley nr Bristol) and i sat there sketching and painting it.

Its a great walk and some amazing places to explore.

Only a quick update and no MBD cards this week as totally buried under work so can't share, but i didnt want to miss out on this weeks hence this quickie

Happy woyww

Hello peeps, so I finally got a few days off work last week and was able to walk away from the screens! Out in the country with no wifi access and poor phone signal and the allotment, where your hands are so dirty you daren't touch a screen!  I also got some happy mail!  Thanks Susan Renshaw, we swapped postcards and ATC for the anniversary and I was so chuffed to get someone from Australia.

On my desk this week (it was last night as the desk is filled with work otherwise) I decided to have a play with some pre stamped images and colour in with my inktense pencils.

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are 'Teen Heiress Falls for Convict' - ooh!

I also spent a lot of last week preserving with rhubarb and strawberries off the allotment (we picked over 5lb strawberries in one day!!).  I made Rhubarb chutney (in total I have 41 jars made!!), Strawberry Jam and Strawberry vinegar and also a big double batch of elderflower cordial.  I will try to remember to upload a couple of photos in the next couple of days.

So, what's on your workdesk this Wednesday?

Hello, bit of a late update from me as had a few days off work so don't do much screen time when i am off work! So, my desk this week was my kitchen!! Had loads of strawberries both #yellowsticker and also off the allotment so started my first batch of strawberry vinegar. Each year I make this and also elderberry vinegar. They are sweetened like Victorian shrubs and are great for salads, cooking and also mocktails adding some to sodawater etc.

No 'Man bites dog' cards (sorry Mary Anne) as they are upstairs and totally forgot!!

Hello peeps, need to start with an apology as the pay the bills job is busy (and probably will be for the next few months) so I have been a bit slack in desk returns and even blogging myself.  However, I was chuffed to get some lovely post in the past week.

The postcard and ATC on the left is from the lovely Morti (LOVE the fact that the castle isnt in Camborne but still its close by so they included it!!).  In the middle is a postcard and handpainted ATC from the lovely Jan and on the right is a lovely ATC (with a great stamp saying "Today is a great day", yes it is) from Bishopsmate.

I also remembered my "Man Bites Dog" cards and this weeks headline is "Star Actor Snubs Judge" - ooh I wonder if that would refer to one of those TV shows like "The Masked Singer" etc???

Hello peeps, another What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday.  After last weeks 12th Anniversary I have posted my ATCs out so I wont share them here until I know the recipients have them.

On my desk this week is the next page of my 365 Challenge Journal in an attempt to get it made BEFORE the 1st!!  Well, at least I have made the background so that's a win!

My "Man Bites Cards" this week are 'Singer Weds Model Hubby' - a much nicer headline this week!  Also, I note that the lovely Mary Anne has also found her MBD so maybe we could do a combined headline one week?!!

Happy 12th What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday anniversary!  I bet 12 years ago the lovely Queen of Desks Julia did NOT realise what she created!!  After stalking for a while I decided to start a blog and join in, that was about 10 years ago, and I am SO pleased I did, over the years I have made some fantastic friends virtually and also meeting up in the physical world, brilliant.

This is what I had on my desk in readiness, I have actually made some ATC's!!

Now, I admit I havent made loads, I only made 4 so I have one for the official swap and 3 others that I plan to send on, I'll be honest, the pay the bills job has been full on the past 12 months so not much personal time to craft but chuffed I made these in time!!  (small wins still totally count!).

So, raising a cuppa and a biccie to the lovely Julia our Queen, Jan our long standing deputy and in honour to our chief enabler and in memory to Shaz.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, its been an amazing 12 years and here is to many more.

Morning peeps, only a quick one today as scheduled this last night as back to back meetings again.  On my desk this week i decided to attack my scrap box and make some cards. My 'man bites dog' cards this week are odd!!

Just a quick update also on my homemade produce, finally got round to filtering my elderberry brandy which has been steeping since October! Needless to say the old brandy bottles (i decanted them into prettier bottles) filled my recycling bin, goodness knows what they thought when the bins were collected Monday!!!

Happy What's on your workdesk Wednesday, this week is slightly different as I have mostly been preserving, the season is well and truly under way!  I am chuffed that at the start of the season I already have a box ready.

So far I have made wild garlic salt, dehydrated wild garlic and several batches of Dandelion honey.

But what I do like is when the house starts smelling of vinegar!!  That means chutney season has started and this is my first double batch of rhubarb chutney.  I try to make enough jam, chutney, dried herbs etc that will last me the year.  I don't like spending money on things I know I can make myself for a lot cheaper!

I also have some crafting on my desk but need to keep that under wraps for next weeks WOYWW anniversary!

Happy WOYWW

Bristol Urban Sketchers

Just a quick update, at the weekend the Bristol Urban sketchers had another virtual meet up (they had a couple of physical max 6 per group, socially distanced ones too but I havent been able to attend yet).

The virtual ones over the past 13 months or so have been brilliant, we chat on video, sketch, chat more then show and tell.  It has meant we have been able to visit some amazing places from singapore to wales!  This week it was Amsterdam, I havent been there for a few years so it was lovely exploring it on street view and having a good nose around!

The fact that every building had 3 sets of windows in EVERY building, I am not going to lie started to do my head in after an hour but I stuck with it.  I havent painted reflections before so that was a new thing and something I am going to practise and look up some hints and tips on.

The skillset of the Bristol group is amazing and I learn so much from them and they are always polite and encouraging, which is lovely, fingers crossed I can do an actual meet up soon.

Hello peeps, its another What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday where we share our desks.  Well, I loved having a mid week day off last week so I took another this week so I could craft for a bit again!

On my desk is my 365 journal and I thought I would get an early start on the May month page.  I found a few years back that adding a layer of gesso helps the inks flow across the page and not bleed through as much so I tend to use this as a base layer on my pages now.

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are 'Judge Stabs Teen Actor' - not great but that was how the cards came out randomly drawn!!

Moving on - you may have seen this on my IG page etc but at the weekend we had our regular Bristol Urban Sketchers meet up (apart from one last summer they have had to be virtual for the past 13 months where we chat on live video call whilst sketching-the positive is that we can sketch ANYWHERE in the world!).

This time we sketched in Jerusalem.  There were some amazing view in the old city etc, but I also found this fascinating structure where it appears to be a large circular structure held aloft with wires!

So, whats on your workdesk this wednesday?

Happy What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday, well I have a cheeky day off today so my desk is somewhat different, this morning it is the kitchen.  We are just on the start of the new preserving season (I have already made a large batch of Wild Garlic salt and a jar of dried Wild Garlic powder in the past few days so the new preserving year is well under way!) and this is going to be Dandelion Honey!  It's dandelions flowers, water, lemon and sugar, that's it.  I love the taste of it and last year I did NOT make enough so this year I am hoping to make a few more jars!

The allotment site has loads of dandelions and as its fenced there are very few dogs or people so less chance of them being polluted.  Its nice an easy to make and I use it instead of agave which is my usual "go to" liquid sweetner but this is a LOT cheaper (hence I need to make a lot more this year as I ran out by the Autumn last year!!)

Forgot to bring my Man Bites Dog cards down, sorry will try to remember next week, I will also try to do another post as I have been doing some more sketches recently, yesterday I sketched on the allotment and we have another Bristol Urban sketchers virtual event at the weekend so I will try and post my sketches.

So, are you sharing your desk (or workspace) with us? All the details are the the lovely Julia's Queen of desks blog here
