Wedding Card

Just a quick update for a new card I have.

This is die I borrowed from a friend and I cut lots of black and cream pieces in one sitting to use when inspiration strikes.

The paper is actually a staple of mine, wallpaper.  I find it robust and cuts nicely and of course it is free when you ask for a sample!

I added some ribbon, a resin heart at the top and a glass heart below.

Clean and simple (unusually for me).

Mermaids for free

If you popped by my desk on Wednesday you may have seen a roll of paper and some backing paper (on the left hand side of the desk).

This is what I made from them.

I am not a great one for cute cards but I spotted some girls wallpaper samples with mermaids on and thought a free sample would make a couple of cards and as a bonus I was able to use some of my 12x12 scrapbook papers as backing papers.

I managed to make 3 cards from the free sample in total, not too bad and saves me buying any cute toppers or backing papers (that to be honest I would struggle to use for anything else and I like my stash to be multipurpose where I can).

Wallpaper samples can make some really great cards and is a way to keep costs down and add them to stash you already have to help use up those papers etc that sometimes we just fall out of love with and struggle to use.

Do you have any top tips to use up stash that maybe you have fallen out of love with?

'Marvel' at the freebies

Just a quick update-look what I found!

In a department store (if you are in the UK - Wilko's) I found this wallpaper with large, almost comic sized, Marvel comic cover prints.  You are able to rip some off to take home to test.....

Now, I was a Girl Guide when I was younger so I am "always prepared" and this means I 'may' have had a penknife and scissors to hand to cut off a few pieces to take home to 'test'!!!!

What can I say....it was too good to ignore. The wallpaper is lovely and thick and cut down should make some great cards and backgrounds too.

Yellow taxi

Just a quick update on a card I made.  

This one is made from wallpaper (yep, always worth checking out the wallpaper section in the DIY shops) which I overstamped random letters from a Tim Holtz stamp in yellow archival ink (my favourite ink for stamping).

I then added a sentiment which I hand doodled around the letters to make them stand out.

I matted and layered it onto yellow card and edged it with black ink.

Big Ben scraps

Following on from my previous post about our trip to London I thought I would post a picture of my latest card.

This is made up from my scrap box and is another wallpaper sample!

The original wallpaper is just black line work but I added some watercolour to give it a bit more of an urban sketching feel.

Slowly I am working my way through my wallpaper samples-I didn't realise just how much I had amassed!  Even though they are free in the UK, there is no point them just sitting in my room.  Much better they are turned into a card and passed onto someone else.

Two down, seven letters

Afternoon all, I thought I would do a quick update to show my latest card.

The picture is not the greatest in the world but I am hoping you get the general idea?

The question is can you guess what is it made from?

Wallpaper!  

I found some puzzle wallpaper in a DIY store and asked for a sample piece.  

When I got home I cut them out, matted and layered and then mounted them and viola, a card!

No clues to the crossword unfortunately, but that doesn't preclude you from making your

 own up I suppose?

On my last WOYWW I mentioned I have been looking for a bottle stamp for a while and a few of you sent me details of ones that are available in the UK, so a huge thanks for that.

The only bottle item I have are a couple of sheets of peel-offs which I use to make cards like this

The peel-offs are attached to white card and I colour in the image and use a light grey to add some shadow to give it a little depth.  I matted the image onto some left over gold card and the vintage postcard background is yet more of my wallpaper samples!  I added a small amount of raffia to the left of the card (reminds me of the Mateus Rose bottles of my youth!).

Good for male or female cards and add a "congratulations" stamp or peel-off and it works for a variety of occasions.

Taxi!

Hello peeps, just a quick update.

As you know, us crafters are a canny lot and upcycling is quite often our "thing"....well this card is a great example of that!

The NYC yellow cab background is actually a wallpaper border I got for free off an offcut from a store. I over stamped it with an alphabet stamp in yellow ink to bring it all together.  I then stamped the Birthday greeting on left over card and stamped some of the yellow letters over this, which I then mounted.

A quick and easy card with minimal cost....my idea of crafting!

A card fit for a film star

Hello peeps, finally it's the weekend!  Hurrah, it has been a long time coming this week!

For the past couple of weeks I have been run down with a chest infection, sore throat and cold-there is certainly a lot of it about at the moment, but I have the added problem that with RA I have a compromised immune system so things like this tend to hit me hard and takes a lot longer to recover-but its the weekend so a medicinal whiskey is in order!!

As I mentioned in an earlier post I have a stash of wall paper I need to use up so have set myself a challenge to make some cards from it.

Here is next one I made.

This was a wallpaper border of Marilyn Monroe which I matted and layered onto red and black card.

I added some Tim Holtz film strip across the top and bottom of the card and voila! Another card finsihed.

Am I the only one who walks around a DIY store with scissors?

I have to come clean, I cannot pass by a freebie...especially recycled freebies.  Skips, bins, swaps, freecycle....and I am a hoarder-this does not make for a good mix!

Over the years I have amassed quite a lot of wallpaper samples.  You know, in the DIY superstore you can rip bits off to take home and decide if you would like to buy it.

Now, I have always seen this as a crafting freebie and even take scissors along so that I can take some nice cleanly cut pieces.

However, I have gotten out of the habit of using them-so I have set myself a challenge to use up some (but not all-that would be unrealistic!!) over the coming weeks.

So here is my first card

This wallpaper has a gently glitter on it and I teamed it with a quote which I mounted on purple card and blue metallic card to complement the printed butterfly.

I also added some butterfly stickers (which are on acetate with a holograph background so they sort of flutter) and hey presto, a quick card from snippets that would have gone in the bin!

One down...several more to go!

A quick and almost free card!

 Hello peeps...are you ready for Easter? Time off work and choccys on standby??

So, time off work can only mean one thing for me...crafting time!!  Woo hoo!

I was busy today round a friends house making a new skirt (yep sewing!!....I will blog that later in the weekend when I have some photos) and am waiting on the varnish to dry on a painting, whilst I wait for that I thought I would blog a Marilyn Monroe card I recently made.

 The picture is actually from some wallpaper border samples that cost me nothing from a local DIY store (yep, I liberated stuff to be upcycled and crafted with....me?  who'd have thought that!).

I added some Tim Holtz film strip and used my TH Tiny Attacher to adhere it (I SO love my tiny attacher and use it on so many different projects).

So, a very cheap card and took only a few minutes to make....bargain!
