More Marvels

Still feeling a bit under the weather so I decided to squirrel myself away and use up the last of the wallpaper samples.

A couple of nice and easy cards but it uses up my stash (which is never a bad thing)

I scratched around the edges of the card and added some ink to create some 'dirty' areas.  Then added a die cut circle with a greeting.

On the Hulk card I used one of the smaller images on the bottom left which I matted and layered and added some foam stickers to give it a bit of depth.

Nice and simple but I quite like them and it kept me busy!

WOYWW

Hello peeps and welcome to What's on your workdesk Wednesday where we all go via the Queen of Desks, the lovely Julia (link over on the right) to bare our desks regardless of what state they are in!

Well, this week I actually have some cards being made!  Well, they are basic (some 'free' wallpaper samples-I assume I am NOT the only crafter that goes to big DIY stores with their own scissors for the wallpaper 'samples'?) but I have been poorly for the past week so my mojo is off having a steam and a lie down and I decided to try to make a few back to basics.

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are 'Cop Saves Last Nude Priest'!!!

This is the finished card, I mat and layered and added some depth with some foam mount

What have you been doing on your desk this week?

ooh get me new plates

Hello peeps.  I have to admit that for quite a while I have not been too well, nothing major, but the RA and immune system combined with far too long hours at work taking its toll-but I don't do "ill" so I am not a great patient!

When I feel this ill I struggle to craft etc but I do tend to sit in the craft room and listen to the radio and sometimes I do a bit of sorting or de-stashing and I decided to 'treat' myself!!

Last year I saw some Big Shot acrylic plates on sale so I bought them and I decided this was the week to swap them over!!  Get me, new product being used within 12 months!!!

Now, I admit in this fevered rush to my senses I did manage to rein myself back in-needless to say neither the lovely packaging (nice thick clear plastic that die cuts brilliantly and takes alcohol inks) or the old messy plates (NO idea what to do with them as don't think they can be recycled) have NOT been thrown away!!!

Are there ANY crafters that are NOT hoarders?

Abandoned art and Nomads

When we were down in London recently we went back to the Nomadic Gardens off Brick Lane.  We love this area (see my earlier post all about it here) and it is constantly changing

I decided to abandon a small canvas I made with embossing pastes, paints and ink.

I waited until no one was around and left it

right next to the sign that explains HOW to use their toilets!
  Love it!

As I said, this is an ever changing canvas and there are always some amazing new street art going up.

from the really small

to the not so small

Some of the pieces are HUGE, this one is over an entire end of building wall!

 Simply stunning

and I love this manga inspired one.

and there are several sculptures too-so artistic.

If you are ever down the Brick lane/shoreditch area then I recommend walking along-its free to get in, there is a small coffee cart and of course a toilet!

Getting my Goth on!

This was the card I was making on Wednesday, I finished it.

The image was one I was passed (printed off) from a friend (I think it was Bex) which I coloured with promarkers and added a gentle glitter glaze on the flame.  The background was an embossing folder with TH distress ink in pumice stone gently brushed over the raised edges.

I then added some gems on the skulls eyes (well, why not!)

Gothtastic!

WOYWW

Hello peeps, well what a past week!  Snow that cut us off and shut schools, shops etc.

We don't get much snow in England so the councils aren't funded or geared up for it, very few gritters or ploughs and no snow tyres-but we survived and it meant that we had to change our plans and that meant I got to spend time in the smallest room-the craft room as its the warmest (shame).

On my desk this week is another card I am making from scraps etc that I sorted through the other week which I hope to finish later.

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are 'feds indicted first lover'-ooh!

So, do you dare to bare and share your workdesk on this Wednesday?  If so, why not pop over to the Queen of desks, the lovely Julia (link over on the right) and join us.

Abstract

With the unexpected time being stuck indoors whilst we had snow I decided to have a "play" with my paints.

I decided to have a go at abstracts.  I had been looking online at my talented cousin (https://aoh.org.uk/house/axios-tattoo/ paintings online and thought I would try.

Well, I have NEVER tried abstract before and boy it is hard-building up layers, waiting for it to dry (yep, used my heat gun-I have NO patience).

I painted a canvass with black gesso then used a rolled and spatula to add colours

I used three different colours and added some blocks of white to add interest.

I then created a tints of the colours, mixing them on my old Girl Guide camping metal plate!!

Until finally I was reasonably pleased with the result.
Not sure I like it, it is different and not my usual style but I certainly enjoyed spending the day painting and so I have decided to hang it on the wall at the top of our stairs-not sure it will stay there for long, but it is growing on me!

Some closeups of the details

I certainly enjoy the process and think I will try again.

Have you tried abstract?  Do you have any tips you'd like to share?

snowmageddon

Just so you can see what all the fuss has been about-we got snow!!

I know, we hardly ever get any (well, apart from a few flakes) but this was proper snow!

Some areas (Exmoor, Taunton) in the south had it really bad and were cut off for days before ploughs and tractors could get to them.

Luckily the craft room is the smallest in the house so therefore the warmest-so I had some extra crafting time over the past few days-woo hoo!

Stay warm

Cake cards

Goodness it is cold!  The craft room is the smallest room in the house so consequently it is the warmest, which seems like a good excuse to stay in there!

Just a quick update on a couple of cards I have made in an attempt to use up some coloured card blanks (I tend to only buy plain these days as they are more versatile), scraps, stamped images and sentiments I re-discovered when I have my recent tidy up!

Not particularly difficult cards to make but I quite enjoyed making them, its almost meditative when I craft so it MUST be good for my soul!
