WOYWW

It's Wednesday so that means its once again time to share my "room of shame",
or more popularly known as "What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday" where crafters across the globe share desks-clean, productive or hidden under paperwork (and not the crafting kind).

A month ago I decided to tackle the room and sorted out the bottom half of the book case and the boxes on the floor.  Since then I have sorted out my papers and embellishments and gifted a couple of bagfuls of goodies to various friends (much better they get used rather than languishing in my room for another year).  So I decided it was time to dust and clean the window ready for spring (I have NO idea WHY I decided to do this, I blame the tablets!!).

Now, having Rheumatoid Arthritis means I get tired quickly and when doing heavy work I need to use wrist splints add to this I pulled something in my back Saturday (seriously, hit 45 and the body falls apart!!) which means I set my alarm clock and only worked for 15 minute stints before I rested for a bit.  Yes it does mean everything takes three times as long but at least it means I am not bedridden after I have done the housework etc.

So I decided to remove the items from the window ledge and desk and gave the surfaces a good wipe down-its amazing how spray inks really do travel!!

By moving everything it means I can ensure it is all sorted in a systematic order and nice and clean (not that you can tell it from the after shot, but take it from me it is!!).

On the right is the one piece of card I bought at the Exeter show in February!  It is a Kanban topper sheet (£1.60 and I think I can make 5 cards from it if I am clever with my existing stash).  I plan on making the cards this week so will share them when completed.

My "Man Bites Dogs" cards this week are another Trumpism 'Blonde Tycoon Lost Thousands'  though I would suggest he can be any colour he wants, it all depends which wig he wears and I really hope the thousands refers to the number of voters he looses!

And the great reveal.....

Now the after shot may not look 'that' different but believe me, after three hours hard work it is clean and not a paint splatter in sight!

So, why not join us?  Full details can be found on the lovely Julia's blog with full instructions here

Happy crafting

WOYWW

Welcome to hump day..or as it is known in the crafting world "What's on your Workdesk Wednesday" hosted by the lovely Julia (WOYWW link is over on the right to see what it is all about). So time to bare all.......

This photo was actually taken on Sunday when for some crazy reason I decided it was time to sort my craft room out!  Now, after crafting for 37 years I have amassed a lot of crap (as well as some sentimental pieces and some rather nice stash).  Its all good stuff, and cost a wad of cash at the time no doubt...but my crafting styles and techniques change so time for a clear up.

I decided to tackle it bit by bit and only worried about the unit on the right and all the stuff in boxes on the floor or in the bottom half of the bookcase.  This means it is mainly mountboard (who knew one person could have SO much mountboard!), Christmas stash and jewellery making supplies.

Now the after shot below may not look much different but I have 3 large bags of stash to give away and also a half empty unit!!!  Result.

When the madness takes over again I will tackle stamps next (I don't think there will be many to be relieved of as I have stamped since I was into CB radio and my dad into Radio Ham in the early 70's and you used to get stamps made with your call sign-so I use them all lots), there may be hardly any gotten rid of but I am sure there must be a better way to store them.  They are currently in blank clear VHS boxes with the "theme" on the front and then in drawers with similar 'themes'...Pinterest will no doubt bring up may ideas.  Then next to sort out will be paper-not looking forward to that as its precious!!

So tidy desk means I don't want to mess it up yet so it still looks like this now!!!

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are 'Angry Exec Drops Lawyer'.....seriously some nice headlines one week would be nice!!!

Hope you are all having a good week and happy crafting

WOYWW makeover

Happy WOYWW.  Sorry I missed last week but what with hubby's birthday and a new furniture delivery (well, new to us...it was from a charity shop but fitted the bill perfectly and was recycled) meant I was rather busy.

I do hope Julia doesn't mind, but we try to keep the postings short as there are many desks to get around-but this is both photo and text heavy as there is SO much desk/storage space to show this week!  Sorry Julia.

We had a couple of new cabinets.  One single width (no photo) and now filled with CD's and a matching double (photo below) which now holds my material and sewing stash (rather than 4 large plastic ugly boxes and about 5 carrier bags all stuffed into the dining room.

The great thing about doors is that they hide a multitude of sins though I have started to make mini bolts of my fabric (or at least the stash that is big enough).  It was an idea I found on pinterest where you use a piece of cardboard and fold the fabric-simple and meant that I created even more space!!  Top left in my leather (I went on another workshop at the weekend so will be playing with this soon) and bottom is my quilting batting for the quilt I have been putting off making for a year now!!!

It is amazing as the dining room was crammed full but with 2 new pieces of furniture (the double unit replaced an old Ikea kitchen unit we used to have there) we now had lots of space AND room to move the record unit from the spare bedroom (you can see half of it in the picture above-yep, that is just a SMALL selection of hubby's vinyl-but looking at my stash I can hardly comment can I?).

What to do with the now redundant old unit from the dining room?  I know, remove the very small unit from the craft room and replace it with the dining room one!!  Now, in theory this was a great idea-in practise......this meant clearing out one side of my VERY overstuffed and MINI craft room (too small for a single bed when its empty)-not an easy task I can tell you (it's enough to drive a woman and certainly her hubby to drink, I can tell you!).

So, this is my craft room (with thrifted recycled curtains).  The space on the right is where I used to have a small low unit that had lots of drawers stacked on top (which would be stacked on top of the new unit).

With all the crap off the floor etc now stacked on my so small desk space!

Now look!  I know, most of you may not be able to see the difference-but believe me, it's a HUGE difference.  The glass fronted cabinet from the dining room means that I have about 1 foot extra height in my storage.  My coven secret santa was a notice board with pegs (next to the window) and on here I change the cards that inspire me..currently I have some from Coven members, a WOYWW one, one from a school friend and the lovely Zoe's colouring birthday card.

The red box is my scrap box and I even sorted this out so lots of my scraps are now in little A5 plastic folders from poundland.

I placed my stash in boxes and labelled them and even have a few boxes that are empty!

You can see how small the room is (but crammed full!) but now it is clean and tidy....place you bets as to how long it stays like this!!!

Phew, did you make it to the end?  Well done....as a reward here are this weeks "Man Bites Dog" cards-'Heiress Burns Last Lover'....ooer they are once again a bit sensational!

So, why not join us across the globe (link on the right) and show us what is on your workdesk this Wednesday?   Go on, its a legal snoop and they are a lovely bunch.

Happy crafting
