WOYWW

Welcome to hump day..or as it is known in the crafting world "What's on your Workdesk Wednesday" hosted by the lovely Julia (WOYWW link is over on the right to see what it is all about). So time to bare all.......

This photo was actually taken on Sunday when for some crazy reason I decided it was time to sort my craft room out!  Now, after crafting for 37 years I have amassed a lot of crap (as well as some sentimental pieces and some rather nice stash).  Its all good stuff, and cost a wad of cash at the time no doubt...but my crafting styles and techniques change so time for a clear up.

I decided to tackle it bit by bit and only worried about the unit on the right and all the stuff in boxes on the floor or in the bottom half of the bookcase.  This means it is mainly mountboard (who knew one person could have SO much mountboard!), Christmas stash and jewellery making supplies.

Now the after shot below may not look much different but I have 3 large bags of stash to give away and also a half empty unit!!!  Result.

When the madness takes over again I will tackle stamps next (I don't think there will be many to be relieved of as I have stamped since I was into CB radio and my dad into Radio Ham in the early 70's and you used to get stamps made with your call sign-so I use them all lots), there may be hardly any gotten rid of but I am sure there must be a better way to store them.  They are currently in blank clear VHS boxes with the "theme" on the front and then in drawers with similar 'themes'...Pinterest will no doubt bring up may ideas.  Then next to sort out will be paper-not looking forward to that as its precious!!

So tidy desk means I don't want to mess it up yet so it still looks like this now!!!

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are 'Angry Exec Drops Lawyer'.....seriously some nice headlines one week would be nice!!!

Hope you are all having a good week and happy crafting
Kyla

  3. I know just how you feel Kyla, I spent the whole of January sorting and clearing and although I know the difference to the untrained eye it looks pretty much the same haha

  5. Great to read that you've been crafting for that long, that it is a passion that sticked. Already nice job done with the clearing, good luck with the rest, but don't forget to create in the meanwhile. Vicky #9

  7. Good job! Bet you're keeping all the mount board! Amazing to think of a 37 year crafting career, particularly as I figure you're about 35!! I wouldn't be able to mess that room up fora good few days I'm afraid!

  8. Back in the UK this morning but hopefully back to USA next year. Maybe I will see you that time - with a two year old?
Great desk clean up - I dread undoing all my stash and putting it away - just glad we had so much luggage to get it home in. Naughty of me I know.

  9. I had a good clear out last year & took lots of old scrapbook paper & cards making things into my grandson school where it was all put to good use in the after school card making club.

  10. Wow that was quite a bit of sorting out! I did a little while I was moving to my craft room, but I admit to having trouble getting rid of stuff. I might 'someday' use it lol or have need for it. I'm not a hoarder - don't have THAT much stuff but I do tend to see something and think 'oh how pretty!' and not always have an actually use for it.

    Have a great week

  11. Hi Kyla, this tidying and sorting takes a while, doesn't it. I agree about styles changing over the years- I shifted a load of stuff a couple of years ago to charity shops/my DIL, as they were things I'd outgrown.Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #20 xx

  12. I have sorted my stamps several times (over 2000 of them), and I think I have finally come up with the solution that works for me, anyway. I have them in boxes like you do, except that in each box, I have numbered the stamps in that box, and then put groups of stamps (say, 1-9) in a Ziploc bag, then put the bags back in the themed boxes. I also made an Excel file of all my stamps, and cross-referenced them, because a stamp can belong to more than one theme. Putting the stamps in the Ziploc bags makes it much easier to find a stamp than rooting through a whole box of stamps, and by numbering them I am able to look up a stamp that I know I have on my Excel sheet, and find exactly where it is. I also have a hard copy of all my stamps (printed out my Excel file). My unmounted stamps are all stored in envelopes, standing up in open-ended boxes, and numbered as well, and cross referenced again in my Excel file, so if I have a clock stamp in a set of unmounted stamps, for instance, I can find it under the theme of "time". I found I have used my unmounted stamps much more now that I know exactly what I have. If I need a clock, I can look on my Excel sheet under "Time" and ALL the clock stamps with their location and number is shown! Here is a post that shows how I do my unmounted and the Excel page: http://lindart.blogspot.ca/2015/03/new-stamps.html Hope you get some good ideas, and that you find what works for you! Lindart #54

  13. Hi Kyla, sorting stuff just doesn't turn me on but I know there is stuff I just don't use any more and it will have to go to make room for new stuff. I am not much better with clothes, just hate letting things go although the good old charity companies help with that. Well done with your sorting so far and happy woyww, Angela x 24

  14. Woot! That is awesome. I have a lot of stuff too but can't seem to get up the umpf it takes to sort it all out. I need to cause like you say your techniques and styles change and I have so much stuff I will never use. I am a little late getting around but I made it! Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great week. Vickie #71

  15. I've only been seriously crafting for 6 years and yet have accumulated so much stuff so I hate to think how much you have to sort through given my sort out has been going on for weeks now! Good luck!
    Have a good week.
