A show and a couple of classes

There are not many craft shows (or indeed craft shops) down here in the West country so last weekend we had a Coven outing to the Shepton Craft fair.

I didn't buy much (in fact most of this actually fitted in the storage box I bought!) but what I did buy were items that I know I will use.

The storage box was only £1, perfect for storing my colouring pencils.
The light weight air drying clay and memento ink are replacements as I have run out of mine.

The Vintaj metal embossing plates were TOO good a bargain at either £2 or £1 each as were the resin blanks at £1 each and the TH mini distress pads are lovely bright colours that I don't have and know I will use.

We were lucky enough to enrol into two make and takes: the first was Powertex

where we made mini canvasses

The other was glass foiling where we made these sun catchers-and got to play with soldering irons-what's not to like!

I know the internet sometimes makes things seem much closer (skyping my family in NZ, buying from the states etc) but I also remembered how small the crafting world can be as I bumped into a couple of friends  (waves at Kay) and Morti albeit for a short time (as I was doing the class at the time), but great nonetheless.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend

WOYWW

Hello peeps, this week is again a little different as on my desk is a kitchen timer I am trying to make!  I assembled it from a kit from Maplins but a few of the LED's are not working so I borrowed a solder sucker (the syringe looking thing on the right) from one of the engineers at work (his face was a picture when I asked!).

I remembered my "Man Bites Dog" cards this week....'Rare 340lb Nude Angel Revealed', well that's put me off my lunch!

I managed to get all but 2 working, and it counts down and an alarm buzzes when it reaches its time!  Not my usual crafting but fun nonetheless.

Apologies that I have not been able to do all my revisits from last week....my net book is over 6 years old and is quickly grinding to a  halt and takes hours to do so I need to do some research into a new device (bah humbug).

So, why not join us for a legal snoop at desks across the globe.  Every Wednesday courtesy of Julia (link on the right) we bare our desks be them clean, dirty or on the floor (Hi Helen) :-)

WOYWW with some hot tips

Hello peeps.  I know I am going to be busy with the day job this week so this is scheduled and the photo was taken earlier this week.
So What's on MY Workdesk?  Well, I have decided to have another go at some soldering (hence the blog post title!).
I am trying to make a kitchen timer!

This is it out of its housing.  It doesn't work properly as all the LED's don't light up and the alarm goes off only on some!  I know a few engineers so put it out on facebook and they have come back with some good suggestions about testing the LED's-but to be honest I think the answer is probably that I may have been a bit heavy handed and burnt them out.  The soldering iron used to be my dad's and I don't think the tip gets that hot so I was melting the solder with the side and it all got a bit hot!!

Nevermind, it's all an experiment and can only go to enhance my craft skills!!
My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are 'Burns Nurse Blasts Girl' or even 'Blasts Girl Burns Nurse!'

Anyhoo, if you fancy a legal snoop at desks across the globe then pop over to the lovely Julias blog

A wedding, various Birthdays and soldering!

Afternoon all, I have not been about for a while, work is far too busy and it was my birthday last week so my hubby took me to London for a few days away.  It was lovely (we had about 2 inches of snow!!), I watched a Japanese tea ceremony, Chinese new year in chinatown and spent far too much money and time in the 3 story art shop CASS Art in Inslington (I love it there, the staff are so knowledgeable). When I got home the crafty coven made me a cake and bought LOTS of crafty goodies!!!!  Thanks ladies x

As well as my birthday, last week was also several friends birthdays, my brothers birthday, his wedding (in Ecuador where he lives) and his wife's (ooh that sounds odd, good, but odd!!) birthday too!!!  What a week!

I did at least manage to make my hubby a Valentines card.

As he is in  a band I added some music paper and since it was from me I added some stitching.

I also had a go at making a flashing LED heart for him!!  My solder technique isn't great (my first time!!)...but I think he appreciated the effort that went into it!

Right, as its sunny outside I am off to clear the dead leaves from the guttering round the garage...oh what a glamorous life I lead eh?!
