Oriental cards

 Finally made some cards recently, I know the recipient of one of these has opened it so I can publish it now.

I used pages from a book I bought as background papers, love oriental books as the papers are often really thin but smooth so take inks etc really well.

I also added images I matted and layered and some embellishments in the bottom right.

Now off to make more cards, I may be on a roll!!

Japanese inspired card

I am trying to use up my stash as I have amassed far too much over the years.  

This card is made using a page from a book (love the script) as the background and I matted and layered a Japanese image adding a dimensional topper (I cut the back post off so it sits a bit more flush against the page.

A clean card which for me is unusual (I nearly added some ink around the edges but resisted!)

Kimono scrap card

I am trying to use up my stash and scraps so came across some old peel offs I had.

To use them up I decided to put the kimono peel off onto some iridescent paper and used promarkers to colour the tree trunk and cherry blossoms. 

I used a punch to add the bamboo on the right hand side of the card and added the whole piece to a card blank.

All from the scrap box, so at least I have made a start (not that you would know that to look at the scrap box!!)

How does one recongise a crafter?

Happy Mothering Sunday!

Just a quick update, this is the card I made my mum.  The panel in the middle is from a fabric offcut and the fan is one of those plastic buttons that I just cut the shank off (love my Tim Holtz scissors they really can cut up most things I throw at them!).

I have also come the decision that crafters can recognise each other....see if you agree:

 

Yesterday I am sat in a cafe.  It is in Devon, so not my home town where someone may recognise me.  There are several other people in the cafe....but the one person I smile at and say hello also engages with me...and before you know it we find out we both make cards and stitch....she brings out of her bag a wonderful quilt she is currently making for one of the staff at the cafe...ALL hand stitched-now, neither of us knew each other and I didn't even have my WOYWW badge on my bag, so the question is how did we both know?

Odd eh?  Just goes to show how craft can be a great leveller.

WOYWW and a snippets card

Hello peeps, I hope you are all well and for those being hit by weather colder than Mars over in the States that you are all ok.  I also hope all those of you in the UK are ok with the gales and flooding (my garage has flooded and the road I take to Bath is closed but apart from that, fingers crossed, we have been VERY lucky as I know many who haven't).

So, on my workdesk this week (I admit I did this Tuesday late afternoon as I am am busy tomorrow) is top left my Darth Vadar handcut snowflake left over from Christmas.  It took so long to cut it out I am loathed to throw it out.  I am tempted to spray it black and cut out the Darth Vadars and use them as toppers!

 

On the right is a lovely new stamp set (Lynne Perrella collection from PaperArtsy - a Christmas gift from hubby) and a card I made at coven.  I didn't have any UFO's (that I could find any!) so grabbed a handful from my scraps box grabbed my craft grab bag (a few bits and bobs in a small tote that I keep hand for times like this) and my new stamp set and made a card at Coven (our weekly craft get together).

This is the card I made.  I created a background with a stamp, tore up a page from a Chinese newspaper (free as wrapping from a Chinese supermarket) and stamped the image on scrap card and coloured it with DI and a waterpen.

I also had the right shade of purple flower in my scraps box (I really do chuck any old bits and bobs left over in there!) for the purple ink pad I had already in my bag!  It was meant to be!!

I will be entering this over at Di's blog in the snippets challenge.

Finally, my "Man Bites Dog" cards this week....."Rare DNA Dog Tricks Judge!"....I almost dread to pick the papers up this week!!!

Buddha card and keyring

 Hello peeps, I hope you all had a good weekend?  Mine was busy, the first time in over a month I managed to get into town...not for long (it got a bit too crowded for my crutches) ...but I managed it!

I thought I would share my latest make, this is a card I made for my mum who has moved into a new house. The tag is coloured with some dyes left over from a fabric dying session back in the summer and the Buddha is made from air drying clay in a mold.  The flower and oriental papers are all out of my scrap box (which seems to be growing again!) and I stamped the background.

I coloured the Buddha with coloured gilding waxes and a thin covering of matt multi medium to seal it.

I also made a matching keyring with the Buddha this time made from friendly plastic and encased in resin which I drilled with a hand drill to make the hole.

A small, but very personal gift.

Right, its Sunday so that can only mean one thing....craft, sofa and maybe a veggie roast!!
