WOYWW

Happy hump day where we bare our desks for What's on your workdesk Wednesday.

Last week I was using mdf blanks to make a Christmas present. Obviously I can't show how it turned out until the recipient opens it, but I was quite pleased so thought I would make a few more (well its stash I already have so may as well make them and I can use them as gifts throughout next year).

I found some really nice script tissue paper so thought I would see how they worked out. When the glue has dried I will sand them down on the edges and do a couple coats of yacht varnish (which is what will take a few days to let to dry between coats, last time it took 3 days in total to varnish). I am thinking I may do some coasters too as a nice set with the wine holder.

My 'Man bites dog' cards this week are a bit grim, 'Priest shoots suspect killer'!!

So, what is on your desk this week? Sorry if I didn't get a chance to revisit everyone but the week flashed by (even though I was on annual leave for most of it)!

Happy crafting

Kyla

  1. Ominous MBD! Jeez. Yacht varnish? I had no idea that was a thing! I got some lovely tissue paper with little metallic gold flecks in it - looking forward to having a play with it this week!

  2. I do love a bit of script on wrapping paper! It’s what I always go for.....The yacht varnish sounds interesting, I saw something about putting PVA on fabric and then using that in a collage, it seemed to work really well, I might have a go at that!

  3. Hi Kyla. Yacht varnish is brilliant stuff. John always used it to varnish the place mats he pyrographed. Brilliant - water and heat proof!
    Take care. God bless.

  9. Kyla, sounds like you are on a roll for next year at any moments notice! Clever idea, by the way! Love that you are using the script paper in the background! Have never used yacht varnish, but I am a "want to see it now" kind of girl when I craft, so I'd probably get pretty antsy with the three day wait! LOL Merry Christmas to you and blessings, Felicia #31

  16. A good week to have off work, not too manic but gently enjoyable Christmas stuff all around, and with all the other stuff you do, plenty to do...did you have even one lie in?!!! Love script as a base for building on, will be interesting shaped coasters. Don’t forget to show us!

  17. My Dad used to deliver Yachts so we, I, still have a few tins of it...comes in handy for all kinds of things! Can't wait to see what your 'things' are going to be! Sorry I'm so late, but the days seem to zoom by...all rolling into one long episode! Have a great crafty weekend. Happy WOYWW!? Stay Safe,

  18. Thanks for your return visit, Kyla. I always save the tough kale stems and other peelings and offcuts and put them in a bag in the freezer. Once I've got enough I put them in the pressure cooker with some water and some herbs and make veg stock so nothing gets wasted! After I've strained off the stock, the offcuts go in the compost for the garden. The kitty throw is coming along nicely but it won't be finished in time for Christmas unfortunately. My hubby knows he's got to wait for his present this year and thinks it's something I've ordered online! I'm sorry to hear about your GP surgery woes. The problems we are all having with the NHS seem to be escalating and it's all too easy for them to blame their inefficiencies on Covid, isn't it. Grrrr.
