WOYWW

Happy "What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday" when we join the lovely Julia here baring what is on our desks be them clean, messy, creative or in this case my dining room table as I need to spread out for this task!

So, a couple weeks ago my ankles did their spectacular "oh we have had enough" and collapsed under me, gotta love Rheumatoid Arthritis!  I am fine, bruised to buggary but fine.  unlike my coffee table that I smashed into and broke-fixed that so all good.  BUT what really crushed me was smashing this bowl.

This is a bowl I made in the year 2000 at a pottery course I did for 3 years in our local college using bristol blue glass ground down to create a series of piece (I also made a clock that I still use every day) and it smashed into several pieces!

I decided to have a go at fixing it myself.  I thought I would take the japanese stance of embracing the flaws where they repair with gold to create a new piece but I didnt have gold so I used araldite glue!

It is not perfect, BUT, it is on once piece (for the time being, only time will tell) and back on the coffee table in pride of place!

So what is on your desk this week? Why not join us using the link above and dare to bare!

Happy crafting

  2. Am off FB so missed this, ouch! You poor thing, I imagine your bruises are everywhere, falling and trying to save yourself causes the most amazing of places to get bruised! Glad you’re recovering. Don’t blame you for mending the bowl at all, and as long as it works, it’s a good mend!

  4. I did ceramics at collage so I can appreciate how lovely that bowl must be with the blue glass in it. Unfortunately all my pieces got sold at my final exhibition so i don't have any now. Wonder if you could get some model paint in gold and go over the Araldite so that it looks kind of Mock Japanese?
So sorry you had such a nasty fall - gosh you must have really hurt yourself to do so much damage to other things.
    Take care,
    Hugs, Neet 6 xx

  5. I was going to suggest painting the glue over with gold but Neet beat me to it! Well done on a good fix, I'm glad you're relatively unscathed too.

  7. What a nasty fall - glad you are on the mend. Agree with the gold paint suggestion - I did a similar thing with a ceramic bird I bought from e-bay. It had been damaged and glued back together very roughly at some point and there were also a couple of holes that I filled with polyfilla. The gold paint made something broken into something cherished. Take care.
