WOYWW last of the year

Welcome to the last What's on your Workdesk Wednesday of 2014.

So, how was 2014 for you?  No doubt like many of you it was a mixture of ups and downs and even a few diagonals!

I was lucky enough to meet up with several fellow WOYWWers (how about 2 meet ups in 2015 Julia?! HINT HINT) and was lucky enough to take my husband to Malta to share with him places both my grandparents and parents used to live. The year saw us loose a friend far too young and changes at work that I am sure we will feel the impact of for several years to come.

My word for the year was "Balance" and I have to admit there were times when I seemed to forget it (mainly through long hours at work and lots of unpaid overtime) but when I remembered it it usually helped to pull me up short and forced me to re-shift my balance, so I think I will probably choose it again!

2014 saw me try new sewing techniques and I turned into a bag producing machine in the run up to Christmas (thanks Lunch Lady Jan for introducing me to it!).

So, what is actually on my desks then?

Gulp...all this!

On the right are my pages being prepped for my 4th year taking part in Kate Cranes 365 Journal challenge.

On the desk are 2 calendars I am making for small gifts.  One is  a hanging calendar and one is a desk calendar.  Something bright and cheery to lifts the moods ready for when a couple of friends go back to work next week.

My "Man Bites Dog" cards this week are 'Bizarre Hits Lady Singer'....having been VERY lucky to see Kate Bush LIVE in 2014 it seemed apt!

So, come on in and join us and bare your desk for all to see over at the lovely Julia's blog

Happy crafting and a joyful 2015 to all

Kyla

  1. Happy New Year, Kyla - hope there are many more ups than downs in 2015, it sounds you may be glad to see the back of 2014. Love the desk, as always; and a great MBD to finish off with. Helen #13 (I'd be up for 2 meets too..)

  4. Well I love that you're prepping for 2015's 365 already, my word you are organised. Bet all your handmade gifts went down really well, I'd say you really ran with the learning and made the most of your new found knowledges. balance is a good word for you to have hovering around, and I must say, despite refusing to make resolutions, I have adopted a word or phrase for a year and it does make a difference when you remind yourself. So here's to your balance missus. Long may you live on the edge without tilting!

  8. Hi Kyla! I'll have to check out the 365 Journal Challenge, though I think I've already over-committed myself for 2015! I'm like a kid in a sweet shop running from one jar to the other. This is my first January with my new-found passion, and I'm only just finding out about all these challenges. Happy New Year! May 2015 be filled with creativity and wonderful things for you! zsuzsa @ InkyDinkyDoodle #26

  9. Ha ha your MBD cards make me laugh with your ref to Kate Bush. Would have loved to see her this year but not quick enough. She was one of my faves when I was somewhat younger (!). Your calenders have reminded me I don't have one although I know there are a few of those mini ones hanging about as I was going to make pressies as well...... oops. I need to make something to go next to my pc. Anyhoo yes, 2 meet ups would be good GRIN. Happy New Year!! Cindy xx

  19. Hi Kyla - here's to perfect balance in 2015. My new word is 'time' so I'm expecting to be nudged for a shake up in priorities and use of my time. The calendars sound a good idea. Hugs, Chris # 3

  20. Lovely stuff on your desk, Kyla. I've got to make some sort of desk calendar for this year - I had a triangular card freebie free-standing one with 6 months on each side for last year which was great - think I'll make something like that!!

Thanks for your lovely comment - glad you enjoyed my review post. Unfortunately my niece didn't come on the day I was hoping to give her the book so I've still got it for now. I was very pleased to get it finished in time, though, and also my knitting project that I set myself a deadline for, to finish by the end of the year!

Happy new year and happy belated WOYWW,

  22. I've only made one bag (and it was a few years ago), but I did get bit by the bug. They are on my craftoholic list lol. Kudos to finding the balance in things. #41

  23. "Balance" is a very good word to live by, and is what most of us need to strive for. I am hoping to do more in the way of hand made gifts this year. Don't be fooled by that tidy table. It is not really my craft desk, just where I ended up when I could not even get into my craft room. Thank you for your visit this week and your kind comments. Have a very Happy New Year. xx Maggie #50
