Silk cocoons

I must apologise for the photo as it's not the best but this is the birthday present I made for my sister-in-law's 40th Birthday (forgot I hadn't blogged it).

I stuffed a dyed viscose ribbon and created ruching and knots at regular intervals.

I then cut dyed silk cocoons and hand stitched them together adding sequins and beads.

I attached these with silk thread and viola-the lightest necklace ever (seriously, I have made a lot of necklaces over the years and there is NO weight to these).

It is hard, fiddly work on the hands and takes several days to make but I do love these and have made about half a dozen (most of which I end up keeping as I love them SO much!!).

Sunflowers and nail art!

I thought I would share with you a couple of summery cards I made recently using some free papers from a magazine that I have had hanging around for at least a couple of years!

Once again I matted and layered the toppers onto scrap card from my now shrinking (and organised thanks to poundland 5x A5 plastic folders to separate similar scraps) scrap box.

Whilst I was in poundland buying the A5 plastic folders (they are clear so you can see what scraps are inside, perfect for organising my bits).  In the beauty section I spotted 5 containers of small caviar like micro beads (like the product you add to texture paste) in a selection of colours. 5 containers for a pound seemed like too good a bargain not to at least try!

I poured a small mound of glue in the centre of each sunflower and added the paler coloured microbeads first to build some depth then added the bronze ones on top to give the impression of sunflower seeds.

I think it works quite well.  I don't think I would ever put these products on my nails (their intended use) but on crafting projects, seems like a bargain to me.

Oh Christmas Tree......

Ah, all topped up with anti biotics and lemsip..so I can carry on with a bit more updating...I have finally managed to make some Christmas cards over the past few weeks.

I'm liking the shaky beaded trees (even if i do say so myself).

I have also had a few birthday makes in the past few weeks ; the first card is for the lovely Becks husband, Nige the Goth and its a shaky cobweb design...oooh loving shaky cards. The 2nd card is for Micky, our resident token bloke at our weekly craft get together (great with the cuttlebug and making tea-well done Micky).

This is a set I made for my sister-in-law's birthday. Its ear-rings, bracelet and a handbag charm with Haematite beads. I made the box with my crafters companion which really speeds things up.
