Happy What's on your workdesk Wednesday, this week is slightly different as I have mostly been preserving, the season is well and truly under way! I am chuffed that at the start of the season I already have a box ready.
So far I have made wild garlic salt, dehydrated wild garlic and several batches of Dandelion honey.
But what I do like is when the house starts smelling of vinegar!! That means chutney season has started and this is my first double batch of rhubarb chutney. I try to make enough jam, chutney, dried herbs etc that will last me the year. I don't like spending money on things I know I can make myself for a lot cheaper!
I also have some crafting on my desk but need to keep that under wraps for next weeks WOYWW anniversary!
Happy WOYWW

Love the sound of the Rhubarb Chutney!! I must admit I have wild garlic growing in my garden but never thought of harvesting it . . . .

I'll try again, my info disappeared. Enjoyed your post, lots of great things you've been making. Only familiar with Rhubarb. I usually make cobbler and jelly, but our area lost most of it with a hard freeze last week. My nephew has bees so we get fresh honey from him, but never heard of the Dandelion kind, have had the dandelion wine long ago. We use a lot of garlic but never made the salt. Will google all of it. I had CHUTNEY I love at a little bread shop (now out of business) but she wouldn't share the kind it was yellow and helped clear the sinuses !!! I have 2 really old Herb drying racks, but haven't tried doing that either ! I have mint and planted lavender this year. Enjoy a good week.
ReplyDeleteMy mum always makes jams and chutneys but the deal was that she had to make the chutneys in the barn on a single ring hob because Dad hated the house stinking of vinegar! I've never tried Rhubarb chutney though - that sounds interesting. Mum usually makes tomato or marrow or plum chutney. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#9)
ReplyDeleteI'm well impressed with your efforts and look forward to seeing what you have been crafting with. Happy creative woyww, Angela x19x
ReplyDeleteI admire your cooking craftiness. Never been a fan of rhubarb in any shape or form, but I love the idea of dehydrating wild garlic. Bought some wild garlic pesto at a craft fair once and it was POWERFUL but really good. Maybe with the next harvest? :)
ReplyDeleteLate start - best laid plans and all that…

I've got my boy on the case for grabbing the garlic while it lasts - saw loads on my journey to Wales today too. Late to the party this week - stay safe and keep smiling, Lisa-Jane #8
ReplyDeleteMy grand daughter made dandelion biscuits last weekend, they were quite nice. We went out to a house sale place and she bought a tea pot for her dandelion tea. The only profusion of dandelions I have seen is along the roadside and since you aren’t supposed to pick blackberries by the road I guess it applies to dandelions as well. Well done for getting the home made produce started. Have a great week Angela #23
ReplyDeleteI used to pack potpourri from large sacks into little bags for The Body Shop and my little bungalow smelt of whatever the scent was for that particular day/week/month so sometimes a bit of a mixture! Never had to buy any air fresheners! Haven't heard of dandelion Honey, my dad used to keep bees so he made honey...well, the bees made it, he used to spin it out and put in into jsrs, and also bottled Mead wine. I was too young to drink any back then. Keep Crafting! Stay safe and Happy WOYWW!?((Lyn))#6
